Overview
The WISE system is designed to reliably and securely replace cable in industrial applications. Each WISE remote accepts up to eight 4-20 mA analogs, eight discretes, 1 pulse counting or one RS232/485 input. All I/O is replicated at the WISE host - including analogs with full 16 bit precision. The link between remote and host is a secure, error-protected digital radio link at 50 MHz, 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz, or a traditional telemetry radio system, at VHF or UHF.

Installation
WISE gear is shipped factory-configured and tested. There is no field configuration necessary. Typical installation involves simply mounting and powering the units and connecting the antennas and I/O.

Self Test /Verification
A convenient 'Test' button is provided on both remote and host units to allow verification of the radio link and analog / digital (relay) outputs, independent of connected sensors and systems.

Latest Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Technology
Both the 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz systems utilize frequency hopping spread spectrum with advanced protocols that greatly increase the communications reliability in high noise and interference environments.

Inside the WISE Remote
The WISE remote is located nearest the sensor(s) and includes 4-20 mA, discrete or digital serial interfaces, as well as the complete radio, antenna, optional battery and solar power sub-systems. Also included is a sensor power supply switch, automatically able to power the sensor(s) only when a reading is taken - for battery applications. An optional sensor power supply sources 5 - 48 VDC. All is self-contained in the 'Black-Cube' IP 65 enclosure, outfitted with three indicator LED's, two water-tight I/O connectors and a Test button - used to verify overall WISE system operation. There is absolutely nothing to calibrate or configure.

WISE Networking
Our engineers have created WISE I/O options that support a broad range of legacy industrial interfaces and protocols including 10BT Ethernet and Modbus. This flexibility allows very extensive data acquisition links and networks to be created from our product offerings.

For example, you can connect a WISE Host directly to Ethernet or RS-232, creating a wireless node capable of polling a large number of WISE remotes using Modbus protocol. The system can be constructed seamlessly using different WISE radio types, combining long range links with short range (area) coverage. Each WISE remote acquires analogs and discretes from the field, and can also be commanded to output analogs and relay closures. Essentially, each remote performs the role of a flawlessly integrated radio + PLC - without the associated cost.

Repeaters
WISE Repeaters are used whenever either distance or major obstructions cause the radio signals to be weak. We offer several versions, including one for each radio type, plus a high-speed repeater that uses the NEMA 2.4 GHz radios shown in the photo. Data is processed through all Repeaters in digital form so sensor reading accuracy is never affected.

Weather Tight 2.4 GHz Radio Mounts at Antenna
Long runs of coaxial cable at 2.4 GHz are expensive and lossy. The WISE NEMA 2.4 GHz radio module allows you to place the radio right at the antenna.

WISE NEMA 2.4 GHz FHSS Radio

Signals and power are fed to the radio with an inexpensive Category 5 cable run, up to 150' long, terminated in a standard RJ-45 connector. On the ground, the connector mates with the standard WISE 'Black-Cube' which can be conveniently located near the sensor (4-20, etc.) interfaces. As with all WISE products, everything comes factory-configured and tested - no field configuration is required. -40°C to + 70°C operation - NEMA 4X rated.

Transmission Range Note:
Synetcom specifies a 35-mile (2.4 GHz) range and 20 mile 900 MHz range that includes a 20 dB margin (if the signal fades as much as 20 dB - a factor of 1/100 - the link continues to operate).

Obstructions in the line of sight path reduces range, depending on the type of obstruction.  Contact our factory for assistance.

Radio Choices:                       o For short range (<1000') indoor or outdoor applications, the 900 MHz system is recommended - lowest cost and robust over shorter distances, even with obstructions.

o For moderate range (1000' - 5 miles), choose the 900 MHz radio for most applications, especially those that don't have line of sight.

o For longest range (5 - 35 miles) line-of-site, choose the 2.4 GHz radio.

o If the link must be secure or if long range is needed at 900 MHz, choose the 256 bit AES encrypted 1 watt 900 MHz radio (30 miles).

High Accuracy Analog Readings
The WISE Remote captures analog sensor readings with self-calibrating 24-bit sigma delta A/D technology. Sigma delta incorporates high sample rates and decimating digital filters to achieve excellent precision, accuracy and stability over temperature and time. The A/D features high frequency noise and hum suppression approaching 100 dB.
